What is Texas Hold’em?
The Texas Hold’em has quickly become the most widespread Poker variant, and also the most played in casinos around the world.
At Gran Madrid we have a new room specially designed to host the most important Poker tournaments, both national and international.
In Texas Hold’em, several players compete against each other to obtain the highest-ranking Poker hand.
Each player must make a five-card hand, choosing from:
- Two hole cards and three of the five community cards placed in the center.
- One hole card and four community cards.
- All five community cards and none of their own cards.
How to play Texas Hold’em?
In each Poker game, a standard 52-card French deck is used. The value of the Ace can vary when forming a straight, being the lowest card in A-2-3-4-5 or the highest in 10-J-Q-K-A.
The Game Management sets the duration and betting limits of the game, if any.
Games start with a minimum of four players, among whom seating positions are randomly assigned.
The Casino determines the initial buy-in with which players participate, as well as the amount of rebuys, and also sets the minimum entry requirement for new players. Players are required to rebuy when their stack falls below the table minimum.
The dealer then places a marker or “button” in front of the player immediately before the one with the dealer position, who will be the first to act and start the hand.
Rules
With the aim of protecting the interests of all players and ensuring the proper development of the game, the following actions are strictly prohibited:
- Touching community cards.
- Playing in pairs or any form of collusion between players.
- Playing the pot jointly.
- Voluntarily splitting the pot.
- Buying or adding chips to a player’s stack to increase it during a hand.
- Withdrawing chips from the stack.
- Lending money to other players.
- Making comments between players about hands during gameplay.
- Looking at other players’ cards, even when not involved in the hand.

With the cards shuffled and the cut completed, all participants place their initial bet, which is half of the table minimum.
There are three betting formats:
- SPLIT LIMIT: the first two betting rounds are played with the lower limit, and the following ones with the higher limit.
- POT LIMIT: the bet is limited by the size of the pot.
- NO LIMIT: there is no maximum bet, but the minimum cannot be lower than the amount authorized and clearly displayed at the table.

At all times, cards must remain visible to the dealer and the other players. When it is a player’s turn to act, they may:
- “NO VOY”: the player folds and leaves the game permanently. They must place their cards face down on the table so the dealer can remove them.
- “PASO”: the player checks and stays in the hand without betting. If another player makes a bet, they must call or raise in order to continue playing.
- Call: match the current bet by placing the same amount into the pot as the other players.
- Raise: increase the bet by placing enough chips into the pot.
After each betting round, the dealer burns one card from the deck and places it under the pot.
After the fourth betting round, players reveal their cards starting with the player who made the last highest bet. The pot is awarded to the best hand or split among players with equal winning hands, in proportion to their respective stacks.

- ROYAL FLUSH 100-1. The highest hand of the same suit, starting with the Ace as the highest card followed by K, Q, J, and 10.
- STRAIGHT FLUSH 25-1. Five consecutive cards of the same suit.
- FOUR OF A KIND 20-1. Four cards of the same value or number and one different card.
- FULL HOUSE 7-1. Three cards of the same value or number and the other two forming a pair.
- FLUSH 5-1. Five non-consecutive cards of the same suit.
- STRAIGHT 4-1. Five consecutive cards of different suits.
- THREE OF A KIND 3-1. Three cards of the same value or number and the other two not forming a pair.
- TWO PAIR 2-1. Two pairs of cards of different values and one different card.
- PAIR 1-1. Two cards of the same value or number.
- HIGH CARD 1-1. When no player has any of the above combinations, the winner is the player with the highest card.

A new player may not join the game if the vacant seat would require them to take the “button” or be the dealer.
It is the responsibility of the Inspector or Floor Manager to ensure the proper conduct of the game, acting as referee in any dispute in accordance with the legal framework of the Gaming Regulations of the Community of Madrid. Their decisions are binding for all parties involved.

Before the game begins and in accordance with the Gaming Regulations of the Community of Madrid, the Casino will request from each player, as the only fee, payment for the seat in the game, or a percentage, always within the limits established by current legislation. The amount will be communicated to participants before the game starts.
